The Central Government launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)’ to safeguard the health of women and children in rural and poor households by providing them with a clean cooking fuel. Under this scheme, eligible women receive a free LPG gas connection.

• The applicant must be a woman.
• The woman must be over 18 years of age.
• The family must belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category (e.g., listed in SECC-2011, SC/ST households, PMAY beneficiaries, etc.).
• There should be no existing LPG connection in the household.
