Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G)
The ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G)’ is implemented to provide permanent (pucca) houses to citizens living in rural areas who are homeless or currently reside in dilapidated kutcha houses. In Maharashtra, it is also referred to as the ‘Gharkul Yojana’.
🎯 Eligibility Criteria
- The family must not own a pucca house anywhere in the country.
- Beneficiary families are selected based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC-2011) and the ‘Awas Plus’ list.
- No member of the household should be an income tax payer or hold a government job.
💰 Benefits & Subsidy
- A subsidy of ₹1,20,000 for plain areas and ₹1,30,000 for hilly/difficult areas is deposited directly into the bank account for house construction.
- Beneficiaries receive an additional 90 days of wage compensation under MGNREGA for building the house.
- An extra ₹12,000 is provided for the construction of a toilet under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

- Check the List: Check if your name is registered in the SECC-2011 or Awas Plus list at your Gram Panchayat.
- Documents: Aadhaar Card, Bank Passbook, MGNREGA Job Card, and proof of land ownership (8-A/7-12 extract).
- Verification: After geo-tagging and document verification by the Gram Sevak, funds are deposited in installments based on the construction stages (foundation, walls, roof).

1. How can I apply online for the Gharkul Yojana? You cannot apply directly online for this scheme. Beneficiaries are selected at the Gram Panchayat level based on Gram Sabha resolutions and government lists.
2. What if I don’t own land to build the house? In Maharashtra, beneficiaries without land are provided additional financial assistance up to ₹50,000 to purchase land under the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Gharkul Jaga Kharedi’ scheme.
