To bring every grassroots citizen into the banking fold and ensure government scheme benefits are deposited directly into their accounts (DBT), the Central Government launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana’ (PMJDY). There is no condition to maintain a minimum balance in these accounts.

- Any Indian citizen (aged 10 years or older) can open this account.
- Individuals who do not currently have a savings account in any bank are eligible to open a new Jan Dhan account.
💰 Benefits & Subsidy
- Zero Balance: The account remains active even without any balance, and no penalty is levied.
- RuPay Card: The account holder is issued a free ATM debit card.
- Insurance Cover: Using the RuPay card linked to the Jan Dhan account provides the account holder with a free accidental death insurance cover of ₹2 Lakh.
- Overdraft Facility: After maintaining the account well for 6 months, an overdraft facility of up to ₹10,000 (a small loan) is provided for emergencies.

- Opening an Account: Visit any nearest nationalized bank (SBI, Bank of Maharashtra, BOI) or a Bank Mitra (CSP) center.
- Form & Documents: Fill out the Jan Dhan account opening form and provide just your Aadhaar Card and 2 passport-size photographs.
- No Fees: There are absolutely no charges required to open this account.
