To ensure pregnant women and lactating mothers have access to adequate nutrition and to partially compensate them for wage loss during childbirth, the Central Government launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)’.

🎯 Eligibility Criteria

• First Child: Any woman getting pregnant for the first time or lactating mothers are eligible for this scheme.
• Second Child (Girl): To improve the sex ratio at birth, additional benefits are provided if the second child born is a girl.
• Women in permanent employment with the Central/State Government or Public Sector Undertakings are not eligible.

💰 Benefits & Subsidy

• For the First Child: A total assistance of ₹5,000 is provided in two installments (₹3,000 upon registration and ₹2,000 after childbirth and complete vaccination).
• For the Second Child (If a Girl): If the second child is a girl, a direct single-installment payment of ₹6,000 is given after birth.
• The amount is deposited directly into the woman’s Aadhaar-linked bank account.

📋 Procedure & Required Documents

1. Registration: It is mandatory to register the pregnancy (MCP Card) at a government hospital or Anganwadi within 150 days of conception.
2. Application: Fill out the Matru Vandana Yojana form with the ASHA worker or Anganwadi Sevika.
3. Documents: Parents’ Aadhaar cards, bank passbook, and the Mother and Child Protection (MCP) Card.
